All’s well that ends well
The Saddleback baseball team rallied for a 5-4 win at Southwestern College on Thursday in Chula Vista. The Bobcats scored three runs in the top of the ninth inning to steal a victory from the Jaguars.
Saddleback was on the wrong end of a pitcher's dual heading to the late innings with Southwestern holding a 4-1 advantage going into the eighth inning. The Bobcat bats woke up down the stretch, ripping a win away from the Jaguars for their eighth win of the season.
Saddleback cut the deficit to 2-4 in the top half of the eighth inning when Ben Castelli tripled to lead off the inning and Makani Tanaka brought him in to score on a groundout to second base.
The Bobcats struck three more times in the ninth inning when they touched the Jaguar pitching staff for four singles to take the lead. Matthew Deutsch singled to lead off the inning and was eventually brought around to score on a single by Andrew Nykoluk. J.C. Allen was the big star when he singled home both Jason Wright and Nykoluk with two outs in the inning for the first lead of the game.
Zachary Allegro came in to pitch the ninth inning, looking for his second save of the season. Allegro made quick work of the Jaguars, getting a ground out and two flyouts to slam the door on Southwestern.
Saddleback is now 8-4 overall on the season following the win. The Bobcats are scheduled to play at Palomar College on Saturday at 1:00 PM.
