Cats bounce back against Grossmont

The Saddleback baseball team improved to 2-1 with an 11-0 win against Grossmont College on Tuesday on the baseball diamond.  The Bobcats scored eight times in the first two innings in the win.

Saddleback was coming off a disappointing loss on Saturday and the Bobcat faithful wondered how the mostly freshman lineup would respond.  The Cats growled loud, blasting Grossmont and shaking off any disappointment still lingering from the weekend.

Saddleback scored eight times in the opening two innings, opening up a big lead on a Grossmont squad looking for their first win of the season.  The big blow was a three-run homer from freshman James Derflinger (pictured) to give the Bobcats an 8-0 advantage in the second inning.

Saddleback started Damon Anderson Wolf on the mound and the freshman from Aliso Niguel High School kept the Griffins silent through five innings.  Anderson Wolf had three strikeouts while allowing four hits in winning his first collegiate start.

Saddleback turned to a bullpen duo of Min Joon Cho and Kamden Cisneros, who kept the Griffins silent over the final four innings.  Saddleback pitchers allowed seven hits while striking out five.

Jacob Hudson had a big day at the plate, finishing 3-for-4 with one run-scored.  Ten different Saddleback players his safely in the game, with Derflinger finishing 1-for-2 with four RBI on the afternoon.

Saddleback is now 2-1 on the season following the win.  The Bobcats will travel to Grossmont College tomorrow for a 1:00 PM start in El Cajon.

Game Notes:  Saddleback's shutout was the first since shutting out El Camino College (3-0) in the second round of the playoffs last spring.
