Bobcats earn another split
The Saddleback beach volleyball team went 1-1 in Orange Empire Conference play on Friday at Irvine Valley. The Bobcats lost to Irvine Valley before rallying to beat Santiago Canyon.
Saddleback opened with a 4-1 loss in the opening match against a tough IVC team and had to get things turned around on short notice in order to get a split for the day. The Bobcats did just that, defeating the Hawks 3-1 to improve to 7-7 overall and 5-7 in Orange Empire Conference play.
Saddleback had a forfeit win on court four, so it had a minor advantage when the team match began. The Bobcats made the best of it, winning matches on courts one and two for a decisive victory.
Sophie Vienna and Meg Gardner teamed for a 23-21, 21-13 win on court one. The duo was pushed in the opening game before pulling away in game two.
Saddleback iced the team win when Delaney Wilson and Cori Willcoxson cruised to a 21-18, 21-14 win on court two.
Saddleback will play again on Friday when they host both Fullerton College and Cypress College at Irvine Valley. Matches are scheduled to start at 10:00 AM.
