Beach earns a split
The Saddleback beach volleyball team split a pair of matches at Irvine Valley College on Friday. The Bobcats fell to the host Lasers before beating Santiago Canyon College.
Saddleback played hard against Irvine Valley but was unable to score a point in a 5-0 loss to the Lasers. The Bobcats pressed the Lasers to a third set on courts two and three but eventually came up short.
Saddleback made up for it by sweeping past Santiago Canyon 4-0 in the late match. The Bobcats only had to win two matches due to a short lineup for the Hawks. Saddleback won on court one when Sophie Vienna and Meg Gardner were 21-13, 21-14 winners over Ava Cline and Ashlyn Smith. Cori Willcoxson and Carolina McNamee then dominated on court two with a 21-9, 21-13 victory over the No. 2 pair for the Hawks.
Saddleback is now 4-2 overall and 2-2 in Orange Empire Conference play to start the season. The Bobcats will host Cypress College and Fullerton College next Friday at the Great Park in Irvine, starting at 10:00 AM.
