Men’s T&F looking solid heading to Regional Finals

The Saddleback men's track & field team had a great outing last week at the SoCal Prelims and head into the finals with a number of athletes looking to qualify for the state meet in San Mateo on May 17-18.  The Gauchos already have one state qualifier in distance runner Kyler Fisk, who finished third in the 10,000 meters.

If you look at the early standings from last week you would notice Saddleback in a tie for fifth place, thanks in part to Fisk's third place finish in the 10,000 meters last week.  Fisk blazed the track in 32:27.00…a time that makes him the No. 9 all-time performer in program history.  He will try to become a multiple-event state qualifier this weekend in the 5,000 meters after qualifying for the finals at the Orange Empire Conference Finals last month.  In addition to Fisk, Ricardo Medina will also run in the 5,000 meter finals after finishing 6th at the OEC Finals.

Charles Michinock had another fine showing in qualifying for the finals with a second place finish in the 400-meter hurdles.  Michinock ran a 53.34 and was just 0.09 seconds off the top time of the day.

Saddleback will also be well represented in the hammer throw after Patrick Geers won the prelims with a toss of 53.63 meters.  It was Geers' personal best a week ago and made him the No. 3 performer in program history behind national record holder Remy Conatser and A.B. Shaheen.  Joining Geers is Travis Cotter, who finished 8th at the prelims wit a personal-best toss of 47.53 meters.  Cotter moved into No. 8 all-time in program history with the throw.

The finals will take place at Antelope Valley College this Saturday.
