Men’s T&F finishes 6th at SoCal Finals

The Saddleback men's track & field team had a sensational finish at the Southern California Regional Finals on Saturday at Antelope Valley College, finishing sixth out of 27 teams.   Freshman thrower Patrick Geers was the catalyst, winning both the hammer and discus events as the Gauchos finished just three points out of a top-5 finish.

Geers is peaking at the right time, as he had personal bests in both events.  His toss of 55.41 meters in the hammer was two meters better than any thrower in the field and was the fourth longest throw in the state this year.  His throw of 45.92 in the discus edged out rival Connor Einck of Riverside, who entered the event as one of the favorites with the second longest throw in Southern California for the year.

Another performer with a tremendous week was distance runner Kyler Fisk, who finished third in the 10,000 meters and sixth in the 5,000 meters, taking home nine team points of his own.  Fisk ran a time of 15:29.73 on Saturday in the 5,000 finals, just 18 seconds off the lead pace and 11 seconds out of second place.

Hurdler Charles Michinock will also participate at the state meet next weekend after finishing fifth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 53.19.  Michinock has the sixth fastest time in the state this season and has a great shot at a top-5 finish next Friday-Saturday in San Mateo.
