Ibarra Canales wins OEC title

The Saddleback women's cross country team finished second at the Orange Empire Conference Finals on Friday at Mile Square Park in Fountain Valley.  Freshman Danna Ibarra Canales won the OEC Individual Championship to lead the Bobcats.

Ibarra Canales has been improving all season and came into the meet as one of the favorites.  She delivered a gem on Friday, winning by close to five seconds over her closest competitor.  Ibarra Canales finished the 5k trek in 19:01.12 to finish first among the 37 harriers in the race.

Ibarra Canales was one of four Bobcats to make the All-Orange Empire Conference Team as two others made the first team with one making the second team.  Payton Love (19:56.14) finished fifth in the race and Casey Jones (20:18.18) was seventh to make the All-OEC First Team while Midori McConathy (21:50.44) was 14th to make the All-OEC Second Team.

Shae Barrera finished fifth among Saddleback runners and 18th among the field to round out the team scoring. 

Saddleback finished with 44 points as a team to finish second behind Riverside City College (32). 

Saddleback will compete again at the Southern California Regional Finals next Friday at El Dorado Park in Long Beach.
