Cats swat Hornets in OEC opener
The Saddleback women's water polo team defeated Fullerton College, 15-12, on Wednesday in Fullerton. The Bobcats are now 4-0 for the year.
Saddleback and Fullerton were locked in a tight battle most of the afternoon, with both teams making runs and the lead changing four times during the course of the game. The Bobcats finally kicked things into high gear in the fourth quarter, scoring three straight goals to start the quarter in taking a 12-9 lead. Saddleback then held on as Fullerton could get no closer than two goals the rest of the way.
Holliss Munchoff (pictured) led Saddleback with five goals and two assists for the game. Munchoff scored three times in a 2:13 span in the fourth quarter, giving the Bobcats a 13-10 lead with 4:28 remaining in the game. Fullerton closed the gap to 14-12 before Ashly Smothers put the game out of reach with 1:38 remaining, thus finishing off the Hornets.
Munchoff also led Saddleback with seven ejections drawn while Sabrina Barrot led the Bobcats with four assists and Gabrielle Pasillas led the team with three steals.
Saddleback is now 4-0 to start the season and 1-0 in Orange Empire Conference play. The Bobcats will play in the Orange Coast College Tournament this Friday and Saturday in Costa Mesa. Saddleback opens against Long Beach City College on Friday morning at 8:00 AM.
