Cats sweep Vaqueros in opener
The Saddleback women's volleyball team defeated Glendale College, 3-0, in the opening match of the 2023 campaign. The Bobcats will play again on Friday.
Saddleback started quickly, cruising past Glendale in the opening set 25-6. The Bobcats rattled off 11 straight points at one point in a game that lasted just 20 minutes.
Saddleback started slowly in the second set as Glendale jumped out to a 5-1 advantage. The Bobcats came storming back in taking the set 25-17.
Saddleback took the opportunity to get some new jerseys into the game in set three. Glendale made a run at the end to close within one at 24-23. The Bobcats then took advantage of a service error to close out the match.
Stila Fresenius led the way for Saddleback, finishing with 10 kills in six assists in two sets of play. Olivia Gonzalez had a solid night, leading the team with 30 assists. Marina Maffioli was very effecient, finishing with a .727 kill percentage (8-of-11).
Saddleback finished with 16 service aces in the three sets and a .325 kill percentage.
Saddleback (1-0) will play next at Pasadena City College on Friday at 12:00 PM.
