Volleyball makes playoffs

The Saddleback women's volleyball team qualified for the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Southern California Regional Playoffs when the announcements were made on Thursday.  The Bobcats will play at Santa Barbara City College on Saturday.

Saddleback pulled off a monumental victory on Tuesday night when they upset Cypress College in four sets.  It turned out to be a huge win as the Bobcats qualified for the 20th and final spot in the playoffs.

Saddleback was 15-9 overall and 7-9 in Orange Empire Conference play (6th) during the regular season.  The Bobcats will travel to Santa Barbara City College (14-10, 7-3 WSCN), who finished third in the Western State Conference-North Division.  The contest is scheduled to start at 6:00 PM.

This is Saddleback's first appearance in the playoffs since 2017 and the third appearance in the past six seasons under head coach Brian Hughes.

Saddleback and Santa Barbara have very little history in women's volleyball as the programs have not played competitively in indoor volleyball in the past decade.  Saddleback and Santa Barbara have only played two common opponents in 2022, as both squads faced Irvine Valley College and Fullerton College.  SBCC was 0-1 against Irvine Valley (0-3) and 1-0 against Fullerton (3-0) this season while Saddleback was 1-1 against Irvine Valley (3-2, 0-3) and 1-1 against Fullerton (3-0, 2-3).
