Ibarra Canales impresses at prelims

The Saddleback women's track & field team was in action at the 3C2A Southern California Regional Prelims at Cerritos College on Friday.  Danna Ibarra Canales was a star, finishing first in one prelim and second in another.

Ibarra Canales has had an impressive freshman year.  She finished seventh at the state finals in cross country during the fall and now looks like a good bet for a couple of good finishes at the state track finals later this month.

Ibarra Canales was a force on Friday, winning the 1,500-meter prelim and finishing second in the 800 meters.  Her time in the 1,500 meters was 4:51.59, which was a personal-best by nearly a second over her time at the Occidental College Distance Carnival in early March.  She also had a personal-best in the 800 meters when she crossed the finish line in 2:18.77 to shave 0.17 seconds off her season low.

Ibarra Canales will attempt to win both events next weekend at the 3C2A Regional Finals.

Saddleback had one other top-10 finish at the prelims when Maya Schweitzer finished 10th in the long jump.  Her leap of 5.17 meters tied a personal-best.
