Bobcats post season-best numbers at Vaquero Classic

The Saddleback women's track & field team was in action this weekend at the Vaquero Classic held at both Glendale College and El Camino College on Friday and Saturday.  The Bobcats had 15 finishes in the top-8, with a handful of season-bests recorded.

Saddleback had a ton of success in field events, winning both the hammer throw and shot put.  Amari Trevino-Beverly (pictured) had a season-best throw of 35.27 meters to win the hammer throw while Amanda McFadden hurled the shot put 9.89 meters to win the event.  Trevino-Beverly was also a seventh place finisher in the discus (26.49m) while McFadden was fourth in the discus (33.31m) and fourth in the hammer with a person-best throw of 29.92 meters.

Chelsea Kerr held her own in the jumps when she finished third in the triple jump (10.68m) and fifth in the long jump (5.14m).  Saddleback maintained its season-long dominance in the triple jump with Rachel Whitten finishing fourth (10.55m) and Marie Poljanycka finishing seventh (9.88m).

Saddleback had three other season-bests on the weekend.  Rachel Whitten followed up her performance in the triple jump with season-best time of 1:03.43 in the 400 meters to finish sixth while Christina Bernik had a season-best time of 2:27.53 in the 800 meters to finish seventh.  Casey Jones was a second place finisher in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (12:52.47), which was also good enough to achieve the state's "B" standard.

Shaelynn Barbieri had a season-best in the 400-meter hurdles when she ran a 1:13.95 to finish fifth.  Esther Parrish also finished fifth in the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 16.86.

Saddleback women's track & field will compete again at the Cal State Los Angeles Invitational on Wednesday and Thursday.
