Bobcats impressive at Saddleback Invite

The Saddleback women's track & field team finished fourth at the Saddleback Invitational on Saturday inside the stadium.  The Bobcats had as many as 12 top-10 finishes at the event.

Saddleback had a pair of wins when Isabelle Teh captured a win in the pole vault (3.35 m) and Chelsea Kerr in the triple jump (10.99 m).  Kerr's performance was part of a dominating force in the event as Saddleback's Rachel Whitten also finished third (10.04 m) and Marie Poljanycka was fourth (9.78 m).  Kerr now has the sixth best triple jump in the state this season.  She wasn't finished for the day, later placing third in the long jump (4.98 m).

Saddleback started the day with two scores in the 3,000-meter steeplechase when Casey Jones finished second (13:25.71) and Shaelynn Barbieri was fourth (14:25.74).  The time from Jones was the fifth fastest time in the state so far this season.

Saddleback had three other top-10 performances on the track, with Esther Parrish running fifth in the 100 hurdles (16.70), Rachel Whitten finishing eighth in the 400 meters (1:04.95) and Christina Bernik 10th in the 400 meters (1:05.34).

The Bobcats had two more solid finishes in field events when Amanda McFadden finished fourth in the discus (37.46 m) and sixth in the shot put (9.74 m).

Cerritos College ran away with the team title at the event with San Diego Mesa College finishing second and Bakersfield College third.  Two other programs from the Orange Empire Conference were involved, with Orange Coast College finishing sixth and Fullerton College 10th.

Saddleback will be back in action this week, hosting the Orange Empire Conference heptathlon/decathlon on Wednesday and Thursday.
