What’s that you say, Jolie Robinson…

The Saddleback women's track & field team had a big day at the Southern California Regional Finals on Wednesday at El Camino College when Jolie Robinson captured the heptathlon title.  Robinson blew away the field, winning two events and setting a number of personal-bests.

Robinson has had a big season for Saddleback.  She broke the program record in the heptathlon earlier in the season and now has a Southern California Regional Championship to her name after winning the title on Wednesday.  In addition she broke her own record with a score of 4,603, which is 343 points more than any other athlete in the state this year.

Robinson never finished lower than fifth in any of the seven events, winning the high jump and long jump.  She was second in the javelin and third in 100 hurdles, 200 meters and shot put.  Robinson then cruised to a fifth place finish in the 800 meters, knowing she already had the championship well in hand.

Robinson started on Tuesday by finishing third in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 15.89.  It was an eyelash short of a personal-best 15.87 at the Saddleback Invitational.  She then moved into second place overall after the second event when she cleared 1.56 meters to win the high jump.  Again, it was just a hair short of a personal-best 1.60 meters at the OEC Finals.  Robinson took the overall lead on Tuesday by finishing third in the shot put.  She threw the rock 10.06 meters, which was a personal-best in the event.  Robinson then finished the opening day with a third place finish in the 200 meters when she crossed the finish line in 26.35.  It was another personal-best for Robinson, shaving 0.55 seconds off her time at the OEC Finals.

Robinson opened the day on Wednesday with a dominating performance in the long jump.  She easily won the event with a leap of 5.74 meters, which was just 0.03 short of a personal-best and the top jump in the state this season.  Robinson had it on cruise control the rest of the way, setting a personal-best with a throw of 32.32 meters in the javelin to finish second in the event.  She then ran a personal-best 2:38.14 in the 800 meters to finish fifth in the event.

In total, Robinson had four personal-best scores over the two days at El Camino College.

Robinson finished 343 points ahead of El Camino College's Yukina Hamachi, who finished second.  Robinson's teammate Shaelynn Barbieri finished 14th at the SoCal Finals with a two-day total of 2,922.

Robinson and the Bobcats will be back in action at the Glendale Invitational on Saturday.
