Teh sets new pole vault record

Teh sets new pole vault record

The Saddleback women's track & field team has had a sensational start to the season in 2022 and had another performance on Friday that will leave a mark on the record books.  Freshman Isabelle Teh set the new record in the pole vault, giving the Bobcats three new school records in the past two weeks.

Saddleback has had women's track & field since 1980 and has a comprehensive book of records.  The Bobcats have been rewriting those books this season and now have a third new record in the past 10 days.

Isabelle Teh now holds the new record in the pole vault after clearing 3.58 meters (11'9") on Friday in Costa Mesa.  It was the third highest vault in the state this season and broke a school record set by Alyssa Miller (3.56, 11'8") back in 2005.

Teh had been approaching the record in recent weeks after clearing a personal-best 3.43 (11'3") last weekend at the Occidental College Meet.

Teh wasn't the only member of the team that had a solid day at OCC on Friday.  Olivia Knobbe is just outside the top-10 in program history in both the 800 meters and 1,500 meters after winning both events on Friday.  Knobbe crossed the finish line in 2:24.54 in the 800 meters to win by more than seven seconds and also had a time of 4:54.89 in the 1,500 meters to win by 2.34 seconds.  Both finishes were personal-bests for Knobbe and put her in the top-20 in program history.  Knobbe has the fifth fastest time in the state in the 800 meters and sixth fastest time in the 1,500 meters.

Jolie Robinson set the new heptathlon record two weeks back and came close to setting a new record in both the long jump and triple jump on Friday.  Robinson leaped 5.77 meters (18' 11.25") in the long jump at OCC to win the event by nearly 2.5 feet.  It was the third longest jump in program history behind Sara Morton (1986, 19' 6.25") and Yolanda Hughes (1983, 19' 3.75") and the longest jump in the state by 15 inches this season.  Robinson followed it up with a leap of 11.46 meters (37' 7.25") in the triple jump, which was the fourth best performance in school history.  Robinson currently has the second best triple jump in the state in 2022.

Danielle Lister had one of her best performances in a Saddleback uniform on Friday as she won in both the shot put and discus.  Lister won the shot with a throw of 10.99 meters (36' 0.75") and the discus with a toss of 35.43 meters (116'3").  She was joined on the winner's podium in field events by teammate Kianna Turner, who won the hammer throw with a fling of 35.94 meters (117.1").

Saddleback picked up one more win on Friday when Maliyah Medley won the 200 meters in a time of 25.53.  Medley currently holds the fourth fastest time in the state in the 200 after running 25.10 at an Orange Empire Conference Meet in February.  Medley also has the fastest time in the state in the 400 meters but did not participate in the event on Friday.

Saddleback track & field will be back in action next Friday when they host the Saddleback Invitational.
