Bobcats pick up first win

The Saddleback women's tennis team picked up its first win of the season with a 9-0 victory over El Camino College on Tuesday at the Saddleback Tennis Complex.  The Bobcats start conference play next week.

Saddleback has battled the elements and solid competition through the first few weeks of the season and entered Tuesday's match looking for the first win of the season after an 0-3 start.  The Bobcats achieved the goal, racing past El Camino College.

Saddleback took a 3-0 lead in doubles play after Ellie Maruna and Averie Valverde won 8-3 in No. 1 doubles and Kellie Hoang and Deena Marzban were 8-0 winners at No. 2 doubles.  El Camino had to forfeit the third doubles match as a result of a shortage of available players.

All four competitors for Saddleback would win again at singles play as the Bobcats lost only three games in matches 2-through-4.  The only match with any drama was on court one where Valverde went three sets before winning the third set 10-3 in a race to 10. 

Saddleback (1-3) has the rest of the week off before entering Orange Empire Conference play next week at Fullerton College on Tuesday.  The Bobcats and Hornets are scheduled to start at 2:00 PM in Fullerton.
