Melendez tabbed Associate Head Coach

The Saddleback women's soccer program is back in the news this week as former assistant coach Sean Melendez has been tabbed the associate head coach of the program.  Melendez has been with the program since 2012.

Melendez finished his 10th year as the assistant head coach and the Bobcats enjoyed the best season in program history in 2021, finishing 19-2-2 overall.  Head Coach BJ McNicol says Melendez has been a key part of the success of the program since his arrival.

"Sean has been an integral part of Saddleback women's soccer for 10 years and has helped produce some of the best players in Orange County at the elite club, high school and CCCAA levels," McNicol said.   "After winning the Orange Empire Conference championship and earning OEC Staff of the Year honors in 2021, we are excited to promote Sean to Associate Head Coach."

Melendez played college soccer at Sacramento State where he was an all-conference selection.  He was a team captain for two seasons and established new school records for most games started and most minutes played.  Melendez went on to play professionally with several teams, including the Long Island Rough Riders, the California Gold, and alongside Saddleback head coach BJ McNicol with the Utah Blitzz.

Melendez started his coaching career as the head coach at Christian Brothers High School in Sacramento and is the current head coach at Rosary Academy in Fullerton.  He is also the Director of Coaching for the CDA Slammers Football Club in Huntington Beach and on the Slammers Football Club ECNL staff.
