Medley named Conference MVP

The regular season is over, which means it was time for the coaches in the Orange Empire Conference (OEC) to meet this week and determine an All-Orange Empire Conference Team.  Saddleback's Maliyah Medley was named the conference MVP after leading the Bobcats to an OEC title (co-champs).

Medley finished the regular season with a team-high 21 goals…12 of which came in OEC play.  She had eight game-winning goals throughout the season, with six of them coming in conference play.  Medley's 21 goals is tied for ninth most in the state this season and is the third most goals in a season in Saddleback history.

Joining Medley on the first team were Mia Wood, Averee Campos, Kylie Beu and Emma Snow.  Wood and Campos were part of the top defense in the state this season as the Bobcats gave up a state-low four goals for the entire year.  Beu was the second leading scorer on the team with 12 goals while Snow was third on the team with six goals.

Saddleback had four other players make the OEC Second Team in Lizbeth De Loera, Zoe Chung, Rylie Laisy and Lacy Ruston.  In addition, the Saddleback coaching staff was named the OEC Coaching Staff-of-the-Year.

Saddleback opens the playoffs on Saturday (7PM) against the winner of Long Beach City College and San Diego City College, who play on Thursday in the play-in round.  The Bobcats were given the No. 2 seed for the upcoming California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Southern California Regional Tournament.  Two other programs from the OEC made the field of 18 in Cypress College (3) and Santiago Canyon College (6).  Rio Hondo College was named the top seed for the regionals.
