Bobcats win, but shutout streak ends

The Saddleback women's soccer team improved to 13-0-2 on Tuesday night with a 3-1 win at Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa.  Orange Coast scored a goal in the 65th minute, however, ending a streak of 1,325 minutes without allowing a goal.

Saddleback had done the unthinkable for over 14.5 games, not allowing a single goal.  Fortunately when they did, it didn't matter as the Bobcats had built up a 3-0 lead in the opening half.

Saddleback scored in the opening minutes when Kylie Beu (pictured) took a pass from Maliyah Medley and slipped it past OCC keeper Jessica Gardner for a 1-0 lead.  It was Beu's eighth goal of the season and her first in past five games.

Saddleback extended the lead to 2-0 when Maliyah Medley took a pass from Mia Wood and scored her team-leading 19th goal of the season.  Medley has now scored in each of the past six games and the goal put her in a tie for fourth place in the state in goals scored.

Saddleback extended the lead to 3-0 right before the half when Camryn Marshall scored off a pass from Lacy Ruston.  It was Marshall's second goal of the season and essentially put the game away given the large advantage in shots on goal throughout the first 45 minutes.

Olivia Wynn started in goal and played all 90 minutes.  She faced two shots on goal for the night as the Bobcats held a 17-3 advantage in total shots and a 13-2 advantage in shots on goal.

Saddleback is now 13-0-2 overall and 7-0-2 in Orange Empire Conference play.  The Bobcats play third place Cypress on Friday afternoon inside the Saddleback stadium.  Saddleback and Cypress are scheduled to start at 3:00 PM.

Saddleback has now scored 57 goals for the season…just three goals shy of the program record set back in 2003.  The 14 shutouts for the year broke the record of 12 recorded in 2003.
