Bobcats get McNicol 100th win

The Saddleback women's soccer team improved to 11-0-2 on the season with a 3-0 win at Santa Ana College on Friday in Santa Ana.  It was the 100th win for head coach BJ McNicol.

Saddleback took a 1-0 lead when Maliyah Medley scored her team-leading 15th goal of the season in the 18th minute off a pass from Averee Campos.  It would be all the Bobcats would need as they recorded their 13th straight shutout to start the season.

Medley started the second half the same way she started the first, scoring in the 48th minute off a pass from Samantha Villasenor to give Saddleback a 2-0 lead.  Three minutes later, Campos provided some insurance with an unassisted goal for a 3-0 lead.

Saddleback had it on cruise control the rest of the game, getting 24 players into the game.  The Bobcats finished with a 21-3 advantage in total shots and a 5-1 advantage in shots on goal.  Olivia Wynn played the entire 90 minutes in goal, making one save while improving to 11-0-2 on the season.

The shutout was the 13th of the year for Saddleback, who tied the 2003 team for shutouts in a season.

The win was the 100th in the career of head coach BJ McNicol, who took over the program in 2012.  McNicol's best season coming into the 2021 campaign was a 16-4-2 finish in 2015 when the team finished second in the Orange Empire Conference.

Saddleback will play three times next week, with games on Monday, Tuesday and Friday.  The Bobcats will host inter-district rival Irvine Valley College on Monday at 3:00 PM.  Saddleback will then travel to Orange Coast College on Tuesday for a 7:00 PM game against the Pirates before returning home on Friday to host Cypress College at 3:00 PM.
