Bobcats second at CCCAA state championships

The Saddleback women's golf team finished second at the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) state tournament on Monday at Cypress Ridge Golf Club in Arroyo Grande.  It was the best finish for women's golf since winning the state title in 2003

Saddleback shot a team score of 320 on Monday for a two-day total of 634.  The Bobcats finished nine shots back of Modesto Junior College, who shot a blistering round of 307 on Monday to capture the team title.  Reedley College finished third at 645 and Orange Coast College was fourth at 649.

Saddleback was led on Monday by Amber Davalos, who shot 76 on the par-72 layout at Cypress Ridge.  Davalos had a two-day total of 158 after shooting 82 on Sunday to finish 11th in medalist play.  Mariana Gandia-Mak had the best two-day total for the Bobcats, shooting 153 (74-79) to finish 7th in medalist play.  Sabrina Ladd finished the tournament at 161 (77-84), Nicole Whipple was at 163 (81-81) and Lia Harvey shot a two-day total of 168 (85-83).  The top four scores from each team for each round were counted.

"I'm really proud of the way these kids played all season long," head coach Bob Bosanko said.  "They were all freshmen and I really look forward to having them back next fall."

Saddleback entered the event as the top seed from Southern California after winning the CCCAA Southern California Regional Tournament last week at Sundale Golf Club in Bakersfield.  It was the fourth appearance at the state championships in the past five years under Bosanko, who took over the program in 2014.  The previous best finish at the state tournament during the Bosanko era was in 2019 when Saddleback finished fourth in the state.

Congratulations ladies on a phenomenal season!  OEC Champs (58-2)!  Southern California Champs.  State Runner-Up!
