Bobcats out front at SoCal Finals

The Saddleback women's golf team opened the California Community College Athletic Association Regional Finals with a sensational round of golf at Sundale Golf Club in Bakersfield on Sunday.  The Bobcats shot 311 in the opening round to lead by 16 shots.

Saddleback is half way home to advancing to the state finals after a tremendous effort in round one of the SoCal Finals on Sunday.  The Bobcats are 58 shots clear of fourth place, with four programs advancing to the state finals.

Saddleback had arguably its best round of the year, shooting 19-over-par on the par 73 layout.  The Bobcats had three rounds in the 70's, led by Nicole Whipple.  The freshman from Mission Viejo High School shot +2 on Sunday in cold conditions as the temperature never got above 60 degrees.  Whipple's 75 was the third best round of the day behind College of the Desert's Lehapi Taungahihifo (69) and Antelope Valley College's Arlene Salvador (71).

Whipple was flowed closely by teammates Sabrina Ladd (76), Amber Davalos (79) and Mariana Gandia-Mak (81).  The final round will be played on Monday, with the top four teams advancing to the CCCAA State Championships at Cypress Ridge Golf Club in Arroyo Grande next Sunday.
