Bobcats fend off challenge, win again

Bobcats fend off challenge, win again

The Saddleback women's golf team improved to 42-0 with win at El Prado Golf Course in Chino on Wednesday.  Mariana Gandia-Mak led the way for the Bobcats.

Saddleback received its first real test of the season on Wednesday as Orange Coast College played its best golf of the season in making the Orange Empire Conference match a tight one.  In the end, Saddleback still had enough to get to the finish line in keeping its perfect season afloat.

Gandia-Mak shot a 5-over-par round of 78 on Wednesday to lead a trio of Bobcats in the 70's.  She was followed closely by Amber Davalos and Nicole Whipple, who both shot 79.  Davalos had a strong finish to secure the win, making an eagle on the par-5, 18th hole.  Kenzie Edson rounded out the team score for Saddleback with a round of 87.

Saddleback is now 42-0 on the season and leads the Orange Empire Conference by eight games with only three rounds of golf remaining on the OEC schedule.  Provided he Bobcats can field a full squad over the final three rounds, they are likely to win a fourth Orange Empire Conference title in the past five years.

Saddleback will play again next Wednesday when they host the Orange Empire Conference at Arroyo Trabuco Golf Club.  The first tee times are set for 10:40 AM.
