Bobcats 4th at state finals

The Saddleback surf team was back in action this past weekend at the National Scholastic Surfing Association (NSSA) State Championships at Huntington Beach Pier.  The Bobcats finished fourth overall.

Saddleback was a couple of men down with two members not surfing this past weekend.  The Bobcats still handled their business, finishing fourth and sending a message that they have every intention of defending their national title in June.

Saddleback finished fourth out of 18 schools in a competition won by Westcliff University.  The Bobcats picked up 93 total points to finish four points out of third place.

The top individual performance came from Taylor Stacy, who finished fourth out of 44 competitors in the women's short board competition.  Stacy was also a member of the state and national championship women's soccer program this past fall at Saddleback.

Tony Dakwar had the top performance on the men's side, finishing ninth in the longboard competition.  Saddleback had four competitors finish in the top-20 in the shortboard competition, with Raiki Nashida finishing 13th, Max Beach 14th, Nate Caplinger 18th and Travis Booth 19th(pictured).  There was a total of 133 competitors in the shortboard competition.

Saddleback has won three NSSA national championships, capturing titles in 2006, 2014 and 2022.  The Bobcats will look to defend their national title on June 16-18 at Dana Point.   Saddleback finished third at the state championships last season before winning the national title in July.
