Bobcats split with Rustlers

The Saddleback softball team split a double-header with Golden West College on Monday in Huntington Beach.  The Bobcats will finish up the regular season on Wednesday with "HMC Architects Day".

Saddleback picked up its 15th win on Monday in the second game of a double-header with the Rustlers.  Following a loss in the opening game, the Bobcats bounced back with a dominating win in the late game.

Saddleback cracked out 11 hits in the 7-1 victory.  Alyssa Jimenez, Isabella Harris, Mia Calderon (pictured) and Cristen Areopagita all had two hits in the game.

The Bobcats took a 2-0 lead in the opening inning when Calderon doubled home Jimenez and Ivy Vasquez singled home Calderon.  Saddleback increased the lead to 3-1 in the top half of the third when Calderon led off the inning with a triple and was brought home on a single from Areopagita.  The Bobcats would tack on two more runs in the inning in stretching the lead to 5-1.

Saddleback opened up a 7-1 in the sixth inning, with the final run coming when Areopagita singled home Harris for a six-run advantage.

Desiree McGruder was dominant on the mound, pitching a complete game for her 13th win of the season.  McGruder spread around six hits while striking out four in the win.

Saddleback is now 15-20 overall heading into the final game of the regular season on Wednesday against Fullerton College.  The game on Wednesday will be the last game played on the Saddleback softball diamond. It has been deemed "HMC Architects Day", to celebrate the school breaking ground on a new softball stadium.  A free barbeque has been planned with festivities starting at 2:00 PM.  The first pitch is scheduled for 2:30 PM.
