The Saddleback men's water polo team won three straight games on Friday at the Saddleback Invitational, improving to 9-2 on the season. The Bobcats defeated Crafton Hills (26-1), Ventura (20-8) and Modesto (23-11) by a combined 69-20.
Saddleback opened the tournament with a resounding win over Crafton Hills. The Bobcats had a 23-0 lead at one point in the third quarter as Jack Stevens scored a team-high five goals in the game.
Saddleback then faced Ventura in game two in what was supposed to be a more competitive match. It looked as if it could be tight through one quarter as the Bobcats and Pirates were tied at 3-3 over the first eight minutes. Saddleback then stretched a lead to 8-4 at the half and never looked back in turning back the Pirates, 20-8. Alec Isaacman, Andrew Barnuevo (pictured) and Dylan Gallegos all had four goals apiece as Saddleback scored six straight goals to extend the lead to 18-7 in the first two minutes of the fourth quarter.
Saddleback then returned for a third game of the day, facing a Modesto squad that entered the game at 9-4 overall. The Bobcats again ran away from the Pirates, 23-11, to improve to 3-0 in the tournament and 9-2 overall. Stats will be available later.
Saddleback continues on Saturday with three more games inside the Saddleback Aquatics Center. The Bobcats host Grossmont (10:30 AM), Palomar (2:00 PM) and El Camino (7:50 PM) on Saturday.
