Bobcats solid at OCC Classic

The Saddleback men's track & field team is starting to heat up and had arguably its best showing of the season at the Orange Coast Classic on Friday in Costa Mesa.  The Bobcats won five events in finishing second at the meet.

Saddleback has been making strides all season and this past week at the OCC Classic turned out to be a huge success.  The Bobcats finished second out of eight teams at the event with 22 finishes in the top-10. 

Marquis Colvin (800), Jaeden Cornejo (1,500), Brandon Pizano-Pintor (5,000), James Begando (LJ) and Ja'Qorie Goodson (TJ) were all winners on Friday as the Bobcats finished with 134 points as a team. 

Saddleback dominated the middle and long distance events, sweeping the top five spots in the 5,000 meters while placing four in the top-10 in the 800 meters.

Saddleback had 12 different performances in the top-10 that were personal bests.  Daniel May had two personal bests in field events when he finished second in the javelin (46.76 m) and fifth in the discus (35.71).  Trazler McGrath had a personal best in finishing second in the pole vault (4.10 m) while Goodson's win in the triple jump was also a personal best (13.17 m).  Ryan Doherty finished third in the 800 meters with a personal-best time of 1:59.49 while Jaeden Cornejo had two personal bests, winning the 1,500 meters (4:08.73) and finishing ninth in the 800 meters (2:00.55).  Santiago Sanchez had a personal best in the 1,500 meters when he finished fifth (4:13.95) while Pizano-Pintor (15:39.22), Mitch Groff (16:18.83), Justin Boos (16:32.78) and Eric Dillon (16:49.47) all posted personal-best times in the 5,000 meters. 

Other top-5 performances were turned in by Zach Yost in the 800 meters (7th), Jullian Dorantes-Lara in the 5,000 meters (5th), Alec Delgado in the high jump (2nd), Dryden LaCour in the triple jump (2nd), James Begando in the triple jump (4th) and Ezekiel Sapp in the hammer throw (3rd). 

Saddleback will have a week off before participating in the Arnie Robinson Invitational at San Diego Mesa College on March 31.
