Sanchez sets new 1,000-meter mark

The Saddleback track team was in action last weekend at the Soka University Meet held at Soka University in Aliso Viejo on Saturday.  A new program record was set by sophomore Santiago Sanchez at the meet.

Sanchez broke the school record in the 1,000-meters after crossing the finish line in 2:42.94.  He was nearly two seconds faster than the old record set by Michael Kabbout back in 2017.  Sanchez finished an eyelash in front of teammate Brandon Pizano-Pintor (2:44.45), who also broke the old record.

Sanchez was a part of the cross country program during the fall, making the All-Orange Empire Conference Team after finishing 13th at the OEC Finals.

Track & field is scheduled to host the Saddleback Invitational on Saturday inside the stadium.
