Bobcats sixth at GWI

The Saddleback men's swim and dive team competed at the Golden West Invitational, hosted by Orange Coast College on Saturday in Costa Mesa.  The Bobcats finished sixth in miserable conditions.

The weather was the big story on Saturday as the teams battled the elements to get in an early tune-up for the rest of the season.  Temperatures were in the low 50's with a steady breeze and occasional rain, as Mother Nature did her best to make things uncomfortable.

Saddleback had a handful of solid individual performances, led by Will Prawira.  The freshman had a fifth place finish in the 50 Breaststroke (31.23) and a sixth place finish in the 100 Breaststroke (1:07.87) to pick up 14 points for the team.  Chase Campbell also picked up points in two events with a sixth place finish in the 100 Individual Medley (59.82) and a 10th place finish in the 100 Backstroke (58.48).  Charles Arndt added team points with a sixth place finish in the 50 Fly (29.84) while Ethan Salas finished ninth in the 50 Fly (31.04).

Saddleback picked up valuable points in relay events by finishing fourth in the 800 Freestyle Relay (8:25.49), fifth in the 200 Medley Relay (1:47.79), 400 Medley Relay (4:05.58) and 400 Freestyle Relay (3:39.43), and seventh in the 200 Freestyle Relay (1:39.09).

Saddleback will be back in the pool on March 3 at Orange Coast College for an Orange Empire Conference event.
