A Cat with a hat…take that!

The Saddleback men's soccer team finished up a historic regular season with a 5-2 victory over Santiago Canyon College on Thursday in Orange.  The Bobcats now turn into scoreboard watchers to see if they did enough to make the playoffs.

Saddleback finished up the regular season with a dominating win over Santiago Canyon.  The win puts the Bobcats in third place for their first season of competition of Orange Empire Conference play.  The question remains, will it be enough?

Saddleback took a 2-0 lead in the forst 11 minutes after Andrew Jun and Alex Martinez scored goals for a quick lead.  Santiago Canyon then scored two goals in a matter 2.5 minutes to tie the score at 2-2 with 15 minutes remaining in the opening half.  Saddleback finished the first-half scoring when Jun put in his second goal of the game off a pass from Spencer Simis for a 3-2 lead heading into the locker room.

The score remained the same until the late goings when Saddleback scored a pair of goals to put the game out of reach.  Joel Smith scored his 10th goal of the season in the 86th minute to briefly take over the team lead in goals.  Jun responded with his third goal of the game in the 89th minute for his 10th goal of the season as the Bobcats increased the lead to 5-2.

Saddleback outshot Santiago Canyon 19-9 for the game, including a 14-4 advantage in shots on goal.  Dominic DiFrenna played the entire game in goal, improving to 6-1-3 for the season.

Saddleback finishes the regular season 9-5-5 overall and 6-4-4 in Orange Empire Conference play.  The Bobcats will find out in the coming days if they did enough to earn a playoff spot.
