Adams makes history as Bobcats finish second

The Saddleback men's golf team finished second at the California Community College Athletic Association (3C2A) State Finals at Dragonfly Golf Club in Madera on Monday.  Carson Adams captured the individual medalist honors at the tournament, shooting the lowest score in state history.

Saddleback entered the day one stroke behind Reedley College, who shot a blistering round of 10-under-par on Sunday in the opening round of the tournament.  The Bobcats never got any closer after Reedley shot 9-under-par the second day to capture the state title.

For a second straight day Saddleback made a late charge with the back half of the lineup.  Unfortunately, the hill would end up being too big to climb in finishing six shots behind Reedley.  The Bobcats had some spectacular play out of both Carson Adams and Aidan Valdez, but the Reedley lineup was consistent throughout in outdueling the Bobcats.

Carson Adams grabbed a piece of history over the two days by shooting what is the lowest total (to-par) in state history in finishing at 10-under-par (136).  Chabot College's Andrew Perez also shot 136 back in 2015 on a par-72 course for a -8 total over two days.  Two players have shot 137 total, with Reedley's Jacob Ruffino finishing -5 on the par-71 Rancho Canada Golf Course in 2013 and Long Beach City College's Denny Kim shooting 137 (-7) on the par-72 Yolo Fliers Golf & Country Club in 1999.

Adams (pictured below) shot back-to-back rounds of 5-under-par (68) to win the individual medalist trophy by three shots over teammate Aidan Valdez and Reedley College's Elias Pettersson (-7).  It completed the double-double for Adams after winning the Southern California Regional title last weekend at Industry Hills Golf Club.

Saddleback finished second for the second straight season after finishing runner-up to College of the Canyons last year.  It was the 15th time in program history of finishing first or second in the state.  Saddleback has won six state title in men's golf and has finished second on nine occasions.   The last state title in men's golf came in 2007.
