Bobcats one shot back heading into final round

The Saddleback men's golf team is one shot back of Reedley College heading into the final round of the California Community College Athletic Association (3C2A) State Finals at Dragonfly Golf Club in Madera.  The Bobcats shot -9 on Sunday, which was the second lowest round in program history.

Saddleback sits in a great position provided it can go out and play solid golf on Monday in the final round of the season.  The Bobcats shot a season-low -9 on Sunday to put themselves in the position.  Reedley College is the lone team in front of them after shooting -10.  The hot play by both squads wasn't the only thing that was balmy, as the temperatures hovered around 97 degrees for most of the round.

Carson Adams continued his recent hot streak on Sunday, shooting -5 (68) on the par-73 trek.  Three other Bobcats finished under par with Aidan Valdez shooting -2 (71), Arthur Hess -1 (72) and Denis Watson -1 (72).  Declan Lane rounded out the team scoring with an even par round of 73.

Adams (pictured) sits in third place in medalist play after the opening round, one shot back of both Chase Bird (Reedley) and A.J. Tomasini (Napa Valley).  He started the day with a double-bogey on the opening hole and shot 7-under-par on the final 17 holes.  Valdez is tied for 10th place in medalist play.

Reedley took an early lead when their first golfer in the clubhouse (Chase Bird) posted a score of 6-under-par (67) and their second golfer (Preston Harris) followed with a -4 round of 69.  The Bobcats spent the rest of the day chasing the Tigers and managed to pull within one shot by the end of the round.

Saddleback's round of -9 was two shots off the lowest round-to-par in program history.  Saddleback shot -11 at Tijeras Creek Golf Club back in 2002.

Saddleback will be in the late wave of teams to go out on Monday in the final round.  Play will start at 8:00 AM with the first player for the Bobcats expected to tee off around 9:20 AM.

Saddleback has won six state championships in men's golf, with the last coming in 2007.
