Bobcats win OEC opener


The Saddleback men's golf team played its best round of the season so far in winning the opening Orange Empire Conference match of the season at Navy Golf Course in Cypress.  The Bobcats won in a card-off over Cuyamaca.

Saddleback has played in terrible conditions so far as the previous four matches were all played in the rain, wind and bitter cold.  The Bobcats welcomed some better conditions on Monday and had a better results on the scoreboard as well.

Saddleback shot a round of +12 (372) at Navy Golf Course in Cypress to go 4-0 in Orange Empire Conference play.  The Bobcats won over Cuyamaca College in a card-off when the teams went to a sixth man.  Saddleback's Aidan Valdez shot 77 to beat Cuyamaca's Kyle Lague by three shots as Saddleback walked away the victors.

Saddleback was led by Clayton Smith, who shot even par (72) to finish third in individual medalist play.  Carson Adams was right in the hunt, shooting 73 to finish fourth in medalist play.

Saddleback's six players on Monday all shot rounds in the 70's.  Denis Watson and Arthur Hess both shot 75 while Jack Shipton shot 77.

Saddleback's score of 372 was the best round of the season so far, edging a round of 375 at Soboba Springs on February 15. 

Saddleback will be back in action next Monday when they host an Orange Empire Conference match at Arroyo Trabuco Golf Club.
