Bobcats third at RCC Invite

The Saddleback men's golf team finished third at the Riverside City College Invitational on Monday at Victoria Golf Club in Riverside.  The weather again dominated the headline as conditions remained wet and cold.

The weather has been a big part of the story so far in 2023.  Every match so far has been played in difficult conditions, making scoring a challenge.  Yesterday was no different as temperatures never got out of the low 50's and were accompanied by rain and wind.

Saddleback pieced together a round of 379 on Monday to finish third behind College of the Desert (371) and Santa Barbara City College (377).  It was the second best round of the year for the Bobcats, who enter Orange Empire Conference (OEC) play next week.

Saddleback was led by Aidan Valdez, who shot (+1) 73 to finish tied for third in medalist play.   Valdez was followed by Arthur Hess, who shot 74 to finish tied for ninth in medalist play.  Clayton Smith (75), Jack Shipton (77) and Carson Adams (80) rounded out the team scoring.

Saddleback had three others play as individuals and all three broke 80 for the day.  Denis Watson finished with a round of 73 to tie Valdez for third place in medalist play.  Jonathan Shelton shot 76 while Aidan Devlin shot 79. 

Saddleback will be back in action at the first OEC event of the year on Monday at Candlewood Country Club in Whittier.  The first group is expected to tee off around 9:00 AM.
