Bobcats win by 14 shots

The Saddleback men's golf team won its second straight tournament to start the season by winning the Eagle Classic at Soboba Springs Golf Club in San Jacinto on Wednesday.  The Bobcats had five players finish in the 70's on a tough scoring day.

Saddleback was back at Soboba Springs for the first time since finishing second at the state championships last spring.  The conditions were much tougher, but the Bobcats were clearly a cut above the rest in winning their second straight event to start the season.

Declan Lane led Saddleback with a round of 71 (-1).  He finished second in medalist play as a result.  Two shots behind Lane was Clayton Smith, who finished third in medalist play with a round of 73.  Aidan Valdez had a round of 74 while Jack Shipton shot 78 and Denis Watson 79 to round out the team scoring.

Saddleback had a handful of other players at the event playing as individuals.  Jonathan Shelton led that group with a round of 75.

Saddleback finished with a team total of 375 on Wednesday.  It was 14 shots in front of both College of the Desert and Riverside City College.  Desert defeated Riverside City in a card-off for second place at the event.

Saddleback will play again next Wednesday at the Cuyamaca Classic held at Cottonwood Golf Club in El Cajon.
