Bobcats fire -1 to win by 11

Bobcats fire -1 to win by 11

The Saddleback men's golf team remained hot with a season-low score 359 on Monday at Costa Mesa Country Club.  Clayton Smith led the Bobcats with a round of 68.

Saddleback is starting to show its depth in Orange Empire Conference play.  The Bobcats inserted Smith into the six spot in what would be his first taste of conference play in 2022.  Smith responded with a round 34-34=68 to finish one shot back of Cypress College's Adam Naaman for medalist honors.  Smith was -3 on the front nine and -1 on the back on the 6,542-yard Los Lagos layout at Costa Mesa.

Smith (pictured) wasn't the only Bobcat under par as Zachary Stout remained hot with a -1 round of 71.  It was the second straight round under par for Stout, who shot 65 last Wednesday at Temecula Creek.

Patrick Jaksch followed closely with an even par round of 72.  Declan Lane and Arthur Hess both shot +2 (74).

The score of 359 was the best score for a Saddleback team since shooting 356 at the state championships in 2007 when Saddleback captured the last of its six state titles in men's golf.

It was the second straight win for the Bobcats, who improved to 30-5 in Orange Empire Conference play.  Saddleback trails Cypress by two games in the standings with two dates remaining on the schedule.

Saddleback will play again next Wednesday at Singing Hills Golf Resort (11:00 AM).
