Men’s golf posts lowest score in 15 years

The Saddleback men's golf team picked up its second straight win at the Cuyamaca Classic at Willow Glen on Wednesday in El Cajon.  The Bobcats fired a +6 to win by six shots.

Saddleback knew it had a solid squad to open the season but finished fourth overall in the first event of the season last month, raising some questions.  Since then the Bobcats have been answering the questions, winning two straight tournaments with the latest coming on Wednesday at Willow Glen Golf Course at Singing Hills Resort.

Saddleback had a sensational round, posting a team score of 366.  It was the lowest score since shooting 356 at the state championships in 2007 when Saddleback captured the last of its six state titles in men's golf.

Saddleback had two players shoot under par on Wednesday, with Arthur Hess and Dustin Vasquez both shooting -1 (71).  Hess ended up being awarded medalist honors over three others as a result of shooting -4 (32) on the back nine.  He had four straight birdies on holes 11 through 14 and finished with six birdies on the day.  Vasquez shot 34 on the back nine to finish second.  Rounding out the team score for Saddleback was Patrick Jaksch (73), Declan Lane (75) and Zachary Stout (76).

Saddleback finished six shots in front of Cypress, who had won the opening tournament of the season at La Purisima when the Bobcats finished fourth.  It was the second straight win over the Chargers, who finished third at the Eagle Classic last week.  Riverside City finished third on Wednesday with a round of 378.

Saddleback will play again on February 28 at the Riverside Invitational at Victoria Country Club.
