Bobcats win in tiebreaker

Bobcats win in tiebreaker

The Saddleback men's golf team won an important battle on Wednesday at the Eagle Classic at Soboba Springs.  The Bobcats won against some of the top competition in the state in a second tiebreaker.

Saddleback was not only facing some of the top programs in the Orange Empire Conference, but was also facing some of the top teams in the state as nine different programs were represented on Wednesday at Soboba Springs in San Jacinto, California.  The Bobcats bounced back from a fourth place performance in the opening match of the season in claiming its first win of the season.

Saddleback was led by Zachary Stout, who shot a 1-under-par round of 71 to finish second in medalist play.  Stout fired a 2-under (34) on the back nine, which proved to be critical in the team win.

Saddleback won the team event on a second tiebreaker over Riverside City College.  With the two teams tied at 377 (+17), it went to a sixth player and both teams carded a round of 80 for the sixth best score.  By rule the second tiebreaker is the top five scores on the back nine, which Saddleback held a 187-189 advantage over the Tigers.

Joining Stout on the team card was Patrick Jaksch (74), Dustin Vasquez (76), Aidan Devlin (78), Denis Watson (78) and Declan Lane (80).  Saddleback had four others play as individuals in Clayton Smith (76), Arthur Hess (78), Aidan Valdez (80) and Trevor Allensworth (82).

Saddleback will be back in action next Wednesday when they play the Willow Glen Golf Course at Singing Hills Resort.
