Gushiken signs with Pac 12 program

The Saddleback football program had its first commitment on national signing day when it was announced that defensive back Kapena Gushiken has signed a letter of intent with Washington State University.

Gushiken was an All-National Division Southern League First Team selection this past fall and will head to Washington State during the spring semester.  He finished with 22 tackles and one interception, leading the team with six pass break-ups.

"I want to thank Saddleback for giving me an opportunity to showcase my talent on the field and further my academic and athletic career," Gushiken said.  "I'm just grateful for the journey and the process that it took to get where I'm at!"

Gushiken had more than 10 offers, including Washington State, Cal and Purdue.  He is rated a 3-star prospect by Rivals.com and the No. 40 overall junior college prospect in the country.

Gushiken is one of several Saddleback players expected to sign on Wednesday.
