Bobcats growl back in game two

The Saddleback baseball team evened the best-of-three series with College of the Canyons with a 9-1 victory on Saturday at Doug Fritz Field.  The Bobcats and Cougars will play tomorrow for a spot in the California Community College Athletic Association (3C2A) State Tournament.

Saddleback starter Trevor Eby was the story of the game.  Eby was completely dominant, shutting down the Canyons lineup while the offense was building up a comfortable lead.  The right-hander held the Cougars to just four hits while walking none and striking out six in improving to 7-1 on the season.

Saddleback also rolled out the bats on Saturday.  The Bobcats battered Canyons pitching for 15 hits as every batter in the starting lineup had at least one hit.  Isaiah Morales led the team with three hits in five at-bats.  Cole Koniarsky blasted his third home run of the season in the eighth inning to give Saddleback a 9-0 lead.  Koniarsky, J.C. Allen, Zachary Schwartzberg and Ben Castelli all had two hits in the game as the Bobcats had a 15-4 advantage in hits.

Saddleback is now 35-11 following the win.  It is just the fifth time in program history the Saddleback baseball program has won 35 games in a season.

Saddleback and Canyons will play the final game of the series on Sunday at 1:00 PM.  The winner will advance to the state tournament at Folsom Lake College next weekend.
