A Heffty performance from the Bobcats

The Saddleback baseball team defeated College of the Sequoias, 14-2, on Wednesday in Visalia.  Sophomore Jason Hefft recorded six hits in the win to raise his season average by 43 points.

Not many have ever had six hits in a baseball game and Hefft put his name in a rare group with a half dozen hits on Wednesday.  During the process, Hefft raised his average to .381 for the season.

Saddleback scored four times in the top half of the opening inning to grab a big lead.  Hefft knocked in the opening run of the game when he drove home Jacob Naso for a 1-0 advantage. 

Saddleback scored two more times in the second inning.  Hefft kept the inning alive when he had a single to load the bases with two outs in the inning.  J.C. Allen followed with a two-run single to make the score 6-0.

Saddleback tacked on two more runs in the fourth inning when Allen singled home both Naso and Michael Davinni for a 8-0 lead.  In the inning, Hefft striped his third single of the game.

Saddleback blew the game wide open in the fifth inning when they scored four more times for a 12-0 advantage.  Hefft had the big blow when he cleared the bases with a three-run double. 

Hefft added a single in the eighth inning and another double in the ninth inning as the Bobcats rolled to a 14-2 victory. 

Saddleback started Trevor Eby on the mound and he pitched six innings before leaving with a 14-0 lead.  Eby surrendered just five hits while striking out four in improving to 2-1 on the season.  Jackson Clark pitched two innings of solid relief before giving way to Deacon Nagy in the ninth inning.

Saddleback is now 22-7 overall for the season following the win.  The Bobcats will conclude the three-game set at College of the Sequoias on Thursday.  The first pitch is scheduled for 12:00 PM in Visalia.
