Bobcats enjoy St. Patrick’s Day feast

The Saddleback baseball team had another big day on Thursday with a 14-4 win against Orange Coast College at Doug Fritz Field.  The Bobcats exploded for seven runs in the second inning in cruising to the win.

Saddleback had plenty of fans in the stands wearing green in celebration of St. Patrick's Day.  The Bobcats did a little jig of their own, pounding out 12 hits while capitalizing on a number of Orange Coast errors.

Saddleback trailed 4-0 heading to the bottom half of the second inning when the bats came alive.  The Bobcats sent 10 batters to the plate, grinding out four hits and taking advantage of a pair of walks.  The big blow came from the bat of Jordan Dissin, who planted a ball over the left field wall with the bases loaded for a grand slam (pictured) to give the Bobcats a 7-4 lead.

Saddleback cruised into the bottom half of the seventh inning holding an 8-4 lead when the bats came alive for a second time, aided by a couple of assists from the Pirates in the field.  The Bobcats scored five times in the inning, with Orange Coast committing two errors.  Saddleback had hits from Luc Stuka and Jacob Naso before Dissin again provided a big blow with a double to cap off the scoring in the inning.  Dissin would finish 2-for-5 with five RBI to lead the offense while Zachary Schwartzberg finished with a team-high three hits on the day.

Saddleback had a solid start from Dylan Singh, who went through a rough patch to start before settling into a rhythm.  Singh gave up three runs in the first inning and another in the second before turning a corner.  He allowed just three runners to reach base over the final 4+ innings on the hill to improve to 4-1 on the season.  The Bobcats then called upon Joshua Meekins and Ryan Sveningson out of the bullpen, who held the Pirates hitless over the final three innings.

Saddleback is now 17-5 overall and 4-1 in Orange Empire Conference play for the year.  The Bobcats and Pirates will finish the three-game series at Orange Coast on Saturday.  The first pitch is scheduled for 12:00 PM in Costa Mesa.
