Bobcats strike late for win at Southwestern

The Saddleback baseball team won its third straight game with a 9-6 victory at Southwestern College on Tuesday in Chula Vista.  The Bobcats scored eight runs in the seventh inning in turning the tables on the Jaguars.

Saddleback has had a lot of big innings this season.  In 10 games, the Bobcats have had three-or-more runs in an inning 13 times, including at least one time in every game.

Saddleback did it again in the seventh inning on Tuesday when they sent 13 batters to the plate in scoring eight runs.  The Bobcats received some help from the Southwestern pitching staff.  The Jaguars walked four batters and hit another as three different Southwestern pitchers were used in the inning.   Saddleback scored all of the runs with two outs after two of the first three batters were retired.  In the middle of the inning the Bobcats had back-to-back doubles from Jordan Dissin and Luc Stuka.  Later in the inning Johnathan Behm cleared the bases with a double, scoring Joaquin Hines, Tyler DeClusin and Zachary Schwartzberg for a 9-2 lead.  Behm finished 3-for-5 with two runs-scored and three RBI in the win.

Connor Wilford started and finished six innings in picking up his third win of the season.  Wilford struck out five and surrendered one earned run before giving way to the bullpen.

Saddleback (9-1) has a day off before heading to San Luis Obispo for a two-game set at Cuesta College.  The first game against the Cougars is set for 2:00 PM on Thursday.
