Bobcats don’t horse around with Vaqueros

The Saddleback baseball team improved to 7-1 with an 8-6 win against Glendale College on Friday afternoon at Doug Fritz Field.  The Bobcats scored seven runs in the first three innings before hanging on for the win.

Saddleback started quickly, scoring twice in the first inning, twice in the second and three more times in the third inning in taking a 7-1 lead.  Johnathan Behm broke the game wide open in the bottom half of the third inning when he doubled to score Luc Stuka and Jason Hefft for a 7-1 lead.  It was the second double of the game for Behm, who finished 3-for-5 with two runs-scored.

Saddleback used four pitchers in the game as Ryan Farmer started and pitched four inning before giving way to a trio in the bullpen.  Ryan Cullinane pitched two innings in picking up the win before Wilson Hall and Arthur Liu finished off the Vaqueros over the final three innings.  Liu was impressive for a third straight performance, striking out four over the final two innings in picking up his first save of the season.  Liu has a 0.00 ERA through six innings of work this season, striking out 11 opponents in the process.  It was the third time in the past four games that the Saddleback pitching staff has struck out at least 10 batters.

Saddleback also had solid offensive performances from Luc Stuka and Michael Davinni, who had two hits apiece.

Saddleback is now 7-1 on the season.  The Bobcats will host Long Beach City College on Saturday afternoon at 12:00 PM.
