WWP sweeps through tournament

The Saddleback women's water polo team made things look easy in the first tournament of the season, going 4-0 and outscoring opponents 69-13 in the process at the Saddleback Aquatics Center.  The Gauchos never trailed in the tournament.

Saddleback opened the tournament on Friday with wins over Rio Hondo College (18-4) and Southwestern College (18-2).  In the opening match, Tori Higginson, Raselle Chetwynd and Maddie Choi scored three goals apiece as the Gauchos scored the final 10 goals of the game.  Later in the day, Saddleback raced out to a 15-1 lead through three quarters for an easy win.  Jessica Serrano and Hylah Prussak scored four goals apiece while Higginson added three more.

Day two saw much of the same as Saddleback blasted Modesto Junior College, 21-2, before cruising past Grossmont College, 12-5.  The Gauchos had a 7-0 lead over Modesto after the opening quarter and never looked back.  Alison Echelberger was unstoppable, scoring eight times in the match.  Saddleback continued to ride the hot hands of Echelberger, Higginson and Prussak in the final win over Grossmont.  The trio scored 11 of the 12 goals in the game as the Gauchos sprinted out to a 6-2 lead after the opening quarter and never looked back.

Echelberger led Saddleback with 16 goals in the four games, followed by Higginson (13) and Prussak (12).

Saddleback will be back in the water next weekend when they make a trip to Northern California for the West Valley College Tournament.
