Gauchos sweep away Dons

The Saddleback women's volleyball team is back above .500 for the season after a 3-0 win at Santa Ana College on Wednesday.  The Gauchos improved to 2-3 in Orange Empire Conference play with the win.

Saddleback kept themselves in the playoff hunt with a dominating win at Santa Ana.  The Gauchos are a game behind Cypress and two games back of third place Orange Coast following the win on Wednesday.

Saddleback led throughout, opening with a 25-19 win in the first set of the night.  The Gauchos had a 9-3 lead to start in cruising to the opening-set win.

Saddleback remained hot in the second set.  The Gauchos led 14-10 before going on a 7-0 run to put the game out of reach, eventually winning the set 25-14.

Saddleback then came out hot in the third set, scoring the first five points.  Santa Ana would then put together its best 20 minutes of the night, scoring 15 of the next 22 points in taking a 15-12 lead.  The Gauchos then dug in, streaking pas the Dons for a 25-21 win.

Ronnie Robinson led Saddleback with 16 kills for the night while Ellie Groh had a game-high 30 assists.  Robinson also had a team-high 17 digs while Groh, Ireland Ridill and Brittany Roberson all had two service aces apiece.

Saddleback will play again on Friday when they travel to top-ranked Irvine Valley.  The Gauchos and Lasers are set to start at 6:00 PM.
