Monnig is money in record-setting win

The Saddleback women's soccer team scored a 4-0 win over Norco College on Friday on the East Field on campus. With the win the Gauchos set a new program record as they remain unbeaten through nine games.

Saddleback relied on its leading scorer Emilee Monnig, who tallied two goals in the win.  Monnig netted her team-leading ninth goal of the season in the seventh minute to give the Gauchos a 1-0 lead.  She then scored her 10th of the season in the 47th minute to up the lead to 3-0.  In between she assisted on a goal from Rachel Edelstein, who put Saddleback ahead 2-0 in the 20th minute.

Edelstein also scored two goals for Saddleback, tallying her second goal of the game in the 54th minute to put the Gauchos up 4-0.  She now has seven goals for the year.

Dz-Rae Jara recorded the sixth shutout of the season in nets for the Gauchos as Saddleback outshot the Mustangs 34-5.

Saddleback broke the program record by remaining unbeaten through nine games to start the year.  The record was originally set in 2003, and was again equaled last year.

Saddleback is now 7-0-2 overall and 4-0-1 in Orange Empire Conference play.  The Gauchos are tied with Cypress College for second place in the standings behind Santiago Canyon College.  Saddleback will play both Cypress and Santiago Canyon next week, starting with Cypress on Tuesday.  The Gauchos will host the Chargers starting at 3:00 PM.
