Gauchos pass another test against SAC

The Saddleback women's soccer team picked up another win on Tuesday with a 4-0 victory over Santa Ana College.  The Gauchos scored three times in the opening half in cruising to the win.

Saddleback opened the scoring on a set play in the 15th minute when Becca Thomson's corner was steered in by Rachel Edelstein for a 1-0 lead.  It was Edelstein's fourth goal of the season and gave Saddleback some momentum.  Three minutes later Masie Velasquez connected off a pass from Emily Druckrey and the Gauchos were off and running.  Saddleback closed out the half in the 42nd minute with Emilee Monnig scoring her team-leading eighth goal of the season off a pass from Edelstein.

Saddleback opened the second half the way they finished the first, with Amber Martin netting her first goal of the season off a pass from Druckrey (pictured) in the 50th minute.

"We were able to control the game from start to finish and used everyone on the roster," head coach BJ McNicol said.  "It was a solid performance."

Saddleback used to goalkeepers on Tuesday, with Dz-Rae Jara playing the first 75 minutes and Avalon Mackey playing the final 15 minutes.  It was the fifth shutout on the season for the Gauchos.

Saddleback is now one game away from tying the program as the unbeaten streak to start the season reached seven.  The Gauchos will attempt to tie the record next Tuesday at Golden West College.  Match time is scheduled for 3:00 PM in Huntington Beach.
