Soccer still unbeaten after road win at OCC

The Saddleback women's soccer team is six games into the season and still hasn't lost after beating Orange Coast College, 2-0, on Friday in Costa Mesa.  The Gauchos scored twice in the first half while passing the Pirates in the standings.

Saddleback has yet to lose, but was eager to get a win on Friday after tying with Irvine Valley earlier in the week.  The Gauchos did so by scoring twice in the first 30 minutes and stifling the Pirate offense.

Rachel Edelstein scored the opening goal of the game off a corner kick from Breanna Taboada in the 13th minute to give Saddleback a hot start.  It was Edelstein's third goal of the season.  Mackenzie Galaz then connected for her second of the season off a pass from Emilee Monnig in the 30th minute and the Gauchos were rolling.

The defense was stellar, as keeper Dz-Rae Jara stopped all seven shots that Orange Coast could manage.  It was the third shutout of the season for Jara.

The win also marked the first time head coach BJ McNicol has won on the road at OCC.  The Gauchos went 0-1-1 against Orange Coast last season, somewhat derailing their plans to win the Orange Empire Conference.

Saddleback is now 4-0-2 on the season and 1-0-1 in OEC play.  The Gauchos will host Santa Ana College on Tuesday afternoon. Game time is set for 3:00 PM.
