Gauchos settle for 2-2 tie

The Saddleback women's soccer team started the Orange Empire Conference schedule with rival Irvine Valley College on Tuesday at the stadium.  The Gauchos and Lasers settled for a 2-2 tie.

Saddleback entered the game unbeaten for the season and kept the streak alive.  The teams both scored one goal in each half, but Saddleback controlled the play for most of the game.  The Gauchos outshot IVC 20-7, and held an 8-3 advantage in shots on goal.

IVC took a 1-0 lead in the 28th minute on a goal from Alexandra Benedict.  The Gauchos answered in the 43rd minute when Rachel Edelstein fed Mackenzie Galaz for her first goal of the season.

Irvine Valley again took the lead 66th minute when Rosa Soto-Aleman slipped one past keeper DZ-Rae Jara.  The Gauchos again answered in the 80th minute when Breanna Taboada scored her second goal of the season.

Saddleback now stands at 3-0-2 on the season and 0-0-1 in Orange Empire Conference play.  Irvine Valley is now 2-1-3, 0-0-1.

Saddleback will play again on Friday at Orange Coast College.  Game time is set for 3:00 PM in Costa Mesa.
